Foundation Art and Design student’s success in Gwenllian Ashley Art Prize
A Coleg Ceredigion Foundation Art and Design student has won joint-third prize in the prestigious Gwenllian Ashley Art Prize. The competition theme was 'Power' in relation to the climate crisis.
Organised by the charity Art+Science, the award was presented on April 17 at Aberystwyth Art School where selected work has been exhibited.
Catherine Northfield, who is studying the Level 3/4 Foundation Diploma in Art and Design course at the college had her work selected for exhibition and was awarded joint-third prize. She said: “The level three art and design foundation course has given me the space, both mentally and physically, to explore my artistic side.
“The tutors are experienced at drawing out and nurturing our individual strengths and the creative and critical thinking skills that I have developed and the knowledge that I have gained are not things that I would have discovered alone.
“During the course, I entered the Gwenllian Ashley ‘Art+Science’ Prize and was thrilled to have won joint third prize and have my work exhibited at the Aberystwyth School of Art gallery.
“We are now preparing for our public end of year exhibition, learning project management and curation skills that will help us in our future creative careers.”
The level 3/4 WJEC Foundation Diploma in Art and Design is for learners aged 18 years and over. It’s a full-time, one-year course starting in September and there are no tuition fees.
The course takes place at Coleg Ceredigion’s Aberystwyth campus.
